Biography

Krystal Ng is a partner in the Tax, Trade and Wealth Management Practice Group of Wong & Partners. Her primary focus is on tax and transfer pricing issues in the context of cross-border transactions as well as post-mergers and acquisitions integration for multinational clients across a wide range of industries.

Chambers Asia Pacific ranked her as a Band 4 practitioner for Tax in 2024, having previously listed her as Up & Coming for Tax in 2021. In the Chambers guide, clients commend her for "always being reliable in providing professional feedback." Krystal is further recognized as a Women in Tax Leader and a Highly Regarded practitioner by International Tax Review. She is also named as a Leading Individual for Tax by Legal 500 Asia Pacific since 2023.

Practice Focus

Krystal's practice extends to the provision of strategic tax advice on a broad range of subjects such as income tax, double tax treaties, withholding tax, real property gains tax, assisting with tax incentives and exemptions as well as the planning and management of transfer pricing considerations to achieve an optimal and more tax effective model on a domestic, regional or global level.

She is regularly called upon by clients to advise on international and domestic tax planning matters concerning in-bound investments to achieve an optimal and effective business model, tax structuring and integrations post-merger and acquisitions, as well as negotiating tax incentive applications for foreign investments into Malaysia.

Representative Legal Matters

  • Assisted an American multinational technology company in benchmarking its various intragroup transactions involving it's Malaysian entities.
  • Advised and assisted a global healthcare company in rendering strategic Malaysian tax advice in connection with their post-acquisition integration of several medical entities in Malaysia. The integration involved conducting a detailed tax feasibility study on the Malaysian tax issues as well as rendering valuable structuring advice to minimise the Malaysian tax exposure in the integration.
  • Advised a global leading manufacturer and supplier of premium construction materials in relation to its proposed corporate restructuring exercise. We extensively analysed the legal and tax implications that may arise from the complex restructuring that spans multiple jurisdictions.
  • Advised a global leader in maritime solutions and services on its global reorganisation and corporate restructuring exercise, with the primary goal of de-centralising operational risks and optimising the Group’s overall tax position.
  • Assisted a global information technology company in rendering valuable tax advice and assistance on the implementation of the carve-out of the Malaysian segment of the electrical transport systems business, as well as, planning and outlining the steps needed for the integration from a tax perspective. Our tax advice and assistance with implementation spanned from the very beginning with the incorporation of the a company to hold the carved out assets, to the actual transfer and up to post-restructuring completion issues.
  • Advised a major Japanese construction firm in connection on the preparation of their transfer pricing planning and documentation for compliance and audit defence.
  • Advised and assisted the Malaysian subsidiary of an Italian oil & gas industry contractor in relation to the preparation of transfer pricing studies and audit defence strategies in a complex industry.
  • Advised a global manufacturer of critical products & high performance materials with respect to the tax and transfer pricing planning opportunities in the context of their regional operating model.
  • Represented a Japanese conglomerate group in oil and gas on the restructuring of their shareholding structure and advised on tax planning opportunities resulting in substantial tax savings.
